Lim Goh-tong, a Chinese emigrant, turned a hillside in the Malaysian forest into the world’s greatest hotel. He did this with support of influential gambling figures and other popular gamblers. Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad, allegedly visited the place, although theoretically he should not be associated with gaming business.
Mr Goh-tong introduced Genting Bhd, also called the Chinese emigre’s company, in 1968. Now he is one of the richest men in Malaysia with pre-tax earnings of over $270 million.
