Information for Craps Novices Hints on how to play casino craps
Jun 20

It can’t be denied that craps is an exciting and popular casino game. Still, many players are afraid to start playing this particular game. Why? Because of the confusing number of different bets. If you want to become a good craps player, there are some things you have to learn and do:
• Learn the different bets on the craps table
• Start with a basic beginner strategy
First of all, you have to learn abou t the different Craps Bets.
A Pass Line Bet: it is placed before the come out roll ( the first roll of the dice in a new craps round). If the come out roll is 7 or 11, then you automatically win. If it is 2,3 or 12, you loses. If any other number ( 4,5,6,8,9 or 10) is rolled, that number becomes “the point”. If the shooter rolls the point again before rolling a 7, your pass line bet wins. And inversely- if the shooter rolls a 7 before rolling the point again, your pass line bet loses.

A Don’t Pass Line Bet: It is basically the opposite of the pass line bet with one small difference: if the come out roll is 2, a don’t pass line bet is returned to the player in a push.
A Come Bet: it is placed before any roll of the diece, once a point has been established by the come out roll. Come bets win automatically if the shooter’s next roll is 7 or 11 and lose if it is 2,3 or 12. If the shooter rolls 4,5,6,8,9 or 10, that number becomes “the come point”. If the shooter rolls the come point again before rolling a 7, the come bet wins.

A Don’t Come Bet is basically the opposite of the Come Bet with one difference again: If the shooter rolls a 2, the bet will be returned to the player in a push.

A Field Bet: it is a bet that the next roll of the dice will be either 2,3,4,9,10,11 or 12.

A Big Six Bet: it is a bet that 6 will be rolled before 7.

A Big Eight Bet: it is a bet that 8 will be rolled before 7.

A Place Win Bet: it is a bet that either 4,5,6,8,9, or 10 will be rolled before a seven.

A Place Lose Bet: it is a bet that 7 will be rolled before either 4,5,6,8,9 or 10.

A Buy Bet: it is a bet that either 4,6,8,9 or 10 will be rolled before 7. When placing this bet, a vigorish (vig.) of 5% is charged.

A Lay Bet: it is a bet that 7 will be rolled before 4,6,8,9 or 10. Again, a 5% vig. Is charged for that bet.

An “Any 7” Bet: it is a bet that the next roll of the dice will be 7.

An “Any 11” Bet: it is a bet that the next roll of the dice will be 7.

An “Any Craps” Bet: it is a bet that the next roll of the dice will be 2,3, or 12.

A Horn Bet: it is a bet that the next roll of the dice will be either 2,3 or 12.

A Hardway Bet: it is a bet that the shooter will roll either a 4,6,8, or 10 as doubles (2+2, 3+3, 4+4, 5+5 ) before rolling a 7. Rolling a number by doubles is considered to be rolling the number “the hard way”.

Start on the Pass Line
If you have just started your adventure with craps, you should start playing with a minimum pass line bet, backed by single odds. If the bets win, plave a new pass line bet with double odds. You should keep the amount of your original pass line bet ( flat bet), but increase the odds bet. If these bets win, place a new pass line bet with triple odds.
Remember not to increase your minimum flat bet on the pass line until you are winning. And if you win, don’t go to far. Just increase the winning by 50% of your previous wager. And if you lose, simply go back to the minimum flat bet.
Add a Come Bet
If you feel that you are experienced enough and have the comfort of playing, you can try to add a minimum come bet with single odds. If you win, double your come odds. If you win again, triple the odds. But again, the same rule that you have to stick to: don’t increase your minimum come bet (flat bet) until you are winning. And if you win, increase it by only 50% of your previous wager. But, when you lose, go back to the minimum bet.
Don’t Pass and Don’t Come Bets
After you have practiced pass line and come bets, you may try their opposites- don’t pass and don’t come bets with odds. The betting strategy is here exactly the same as the one gven above.
Taking Odds vs. Laying Odds
You “take” odds on a pass line or come bet, but “lay” odds on a don’t pass line or don’t come bet.
Place Win on 6 or 8
In spite of the fact that the house advantage is relatively low on this bet, you can think of making it under two conditions- you must be winning your pass line ( or don’t pass line) and come ( or don’t come) bets with odds and the number 6 or 8 is not already covered by your bets.
